Car smokers are divided

But the study, carried out by Privilege Insurance, has found that 40% would continue to smoke while driving.
A spokesman said: "The research shows that 47% of drivers would either stop smoking, or cut back on the number of times they smoke at the wheel, if it was proved to increase their risk of crashing.
"We are undertaking a further study to identify just how distracting smoking can be and what the associated risks are.
"But what's worrying is that 40% of drivers across Scotland and England said they would still smoke even if it was proven to be dangerous."
